Article by Magriet Du Plessis
Children love crafting with Fun Foam and Flexi-Foam. These two Easy Kids Crafts implement this favorite medium are perfect additions to the Kids Bible Crafts repertoire of any Sunday School or Christmas homeschool teaching kindergarten, first or second grades.
The heart picture frame reminds children that Jesus loves them, and the Crown reminds children that they are princes and princes in God’s kingdom. Young kids who are eager to learn to sew and who are crazy about shiny objects will especially enjoy both of these fun, Easy Kids Crafts.
These two Kids Bible Crafts reinforce the verses from the Bible that tell us how Jesus regarded children: “Who is the greatest in God’s Kingdom?” Jesus replied: “This child is!” (Matthew 18).
Supplies for “Jesus Loves You” Heart
*Flexi-Foam or Fun Foam (any color, but pink and red are nice for hearts with red being popular with boys)
*Yarn (color to match but stand out from the heart)
*Plastic, children’s craft needles *Sharp needle (for teacher or helpers)
*Scissors
*Permanent marker (fine tip)
*2 heart templates (one large, and one smaller)
*Child’s photo
*Buttons and/or “Conversation” candy hearts (the high sugar content in these candy hearts will preserve them for a life time if kept dry.)
*Craft glue
Easy Kids craft Instructions
1. Trace two hearts onto the foam and cut out.
2. Trace smaller heart onto one of the larger ones and cut out (this is where photo will be visible).
3. Glue photo onto the large heart that will be the backing.
4. Glue the other larger heart (the one with the opening) over the photo covered heart.
5. Using a marker, write “Jesus Loves Me” on the front.
6. Teacher and helpers can use sharp needles to punch holes around the edge of the heart shaped frame.
7. Lace yarn through the holes using plastic needle, so it appears that the frame is sewn together.
8. Decorate with buttons and/or candy hearts.
9. Make a picture hook by gluing a loop of yard to the back of the frame.
