Summer is just around the corner and your precious little ones will be out of school and around the house a couple months. If you want to keep your sanity and keep them occupied on those hot summer days and don’t want them spending all their inside time in front of the T.V. having their brains turned to mush then here are some easy, inexpensive, and fun craft ideas you can do with them.

Younger kids need to have the chance to play and experiment with art to develop and strengthen their creative skills. The more senses they can get involved into their crafting experience the better off they will be. So here are a few ideas to help your little ones keep entertained as well as to help them with some development. painting with yarn: all you have to do to is get a few pieces of scrap yarn, have your little one dip the yarn into a small container filled with paint and then drag them across some paper. It may seem silly but trying to paint with something other than your normal brush can be challenging and quite fun. Salty Dough Scuplting: This one’s kind of like play-dough except you can keep it. Just make a batch of salt dough and then let the kids get a little wild. Its safe and non toxic, it tastes awful so you probably wont have to worry about them taking a sample. The great news is that it is really easy to clean up and if you want to keep their new creations you can let them dry overnight and once they harden you could even paint them if you want to spice them up a bit. Found Things Art: Kids are always looking to discover new things and take great joy in the random stuff that they may come across. So let them go do a little hunting and gathering and let them pick up some flowers, or sticks or anything shiney ect and then allow or help them to arrange and glue their findings on to a piece of construction paper and then let them tell you all about what it is that they’ve created. Packing Peanut Pictures: Every kid loves to play with packing peanuts — but it makes such a mess. Let them create pictures with them instead. Kids can draw on them, glue them to a sheet of paper, or glue the peanuts to each other to make a sculpture. The kids will love it!Finger painting: This of course is always a classic kids craft and its about as easy as it comes. Be sure to use non-toxic or waterbased types of paints and if you want to mix or spice it up a little try branching out from traditional paints and do some experimenting with things like mud or ketchup its really all about what you feel comfortable with letting you kids get their hands dirty with.
