Paper craft projects are a straightforward, inexpensive and enjoyable way of spending some time along with your kids. In many cases, all you need is some scrap paper and a few accessories, so essentially your art supplies are practically free. Regardless of the age of your child, it can be simple to find a craft project that they’ll enjoy making. Below are a few simple paper craft projects which you can use to begin.

Paper Bead Necklaces

These beads are wonderfully simple and easy to produce, and even your small kids can have fun using these. The supplies that you will need is some scrap magazine, scrapbook, or construction paper, a section of small dowel rod or even a lollipop stick, a pair of scissors, a ruler, and some tacky craft glue. If young children will be making these beads, you might want to cut a nice supply of paper triangles for them to use in advance. To begin making the beads, use a piece of stiff cardstock along with a ruler to produce a triangle template. You’ll make the triangle’s base as wide as you wish the length of the bead. Next, making use of your template as the guide, draw triangle shapes upon the reverse side of your papers. Then, cut out the triangles. Beginning at the wide base of your triangle, roll the piece of triangle paper up around the lollipop stick or dowel. Place some glue on the tip of the triangle, and press it in position and form a bead shape. Hold it constantly in place for one to two minutes and after that take off the bead from the stick, placing upon a section of waxed paper or aluminum foil to dry. If your glue has dried you will string your beads onto cord to create bracelets or necklaces.

Making Paper Snowflakes

Making snowflakes out of paper is a classic craft that children always seem to enjoy. To make a snowflake, cut a sizable square from inexpensive white printer or copier paper. First fold your square in half vertically, then you will fold it in half again horizontally. You’ll make one last fold, this time diagonally, forming a triangular shape. Take some scissors and make some small cuts on the long edges of the triangles. You then will cut an ornamental edge on the short end of your triangle, and this will become the outer side of your snowflake when opened. When finished, unfold the snowflake carefully. One great use for these is to decorate your windows within the long cold months of winter. Or, create interesting wall art by placing one or more in white square picture frames and display on the wall.

Origami

Your older children will like Origami, which is the art of Oriental paper folding. Look on the web or in bookstores to find simple instructions for making these interesting paper crafts. Dependent on which kind of project you’ve chosen, you might end up with a lovely 3 dimensional piece of art which you can display on the shelf, or maybe a flat folded piece worthy of displaying using an 8×10 picture frame. No matter what, it’s a good way of creating beautiful art from simple items of paper.
