Many little kids enjoy playing make believe with old clothes, but once they hit the tween stage, do you need to throw out the dress up clothes? No way. Here is a simple crafts for tweens project you can do with some of those old clothes in the closet.
- T-Shirt Memory Quilt Ahh – old t-shirts – sometimes you, or your tween just can’t bear to get rid of them. A t-shirt quilt is a great way to take those holey old t-shirts and turn them into something useful.
- Step 1: Take a large piece of soft fabric as your base – this will be the size of the blanket.
- Step 2: Then take all those favorite t-shirts – maybe you and your tween have collected them on driving trips or there from favorite activities and cut out the front logos in large squares. These will be your quilting squares
- Step3: Begin to sew the t-shirt rectangles together until you have enough to match the size of your quitl base.
- Step 4: Then take cotton batting, which you can get at any fabric store, and stuff between the layers and sew the two layers together.
- Step 5: Then you can complete the quilt by sewing along the t-shirt squares to keep the batting in place. Sew up the edges of the quilt and then add some pretty edging and you have a cool memory t-shirt quilt.
You and your kids can have lots of fun with worn t-shirts that are just lying around the house. With any luck, you’ll want to collect all those t-shirts with an eyes towards making a fun t-shirt memory quilt. With an eye for re-use you and your tween can scour your closets and come up with lots of fun crafts for tweens that allow you to make memories as well as cool pieces of fashion wear. So go ahead – get crafting.
