  1. Make Sachets– this is a great way to make inexpensive sachets for your tween’s closet or even as special homemade gifts.  Pick fragrant summer blooms and herbs like lavender. Strip the stems off the blooms and then set your flowers and herbs to dry in the sun.   You can place them on newspaper or on a mesh drying rack – just be sure to anchor them down so they don’t fly away in the wind.  After the flowers have dried , pack them into a small, airy fabric sachet and you have homemade potpourri sachets.  If you want, you can buy mesh bags online or at craft stores.
  2. Decorate a t-shirt – you and your tween can design a cool tee-shirt with this simple ideas .  Find a collection of your favorite flowers to use in your design.  Then take a wooden chopping block and cover with three layers of paper towel.  Next take the piece of fabric you want the design on – whether it’s a white t-shirt or just a nice white cloth and place it on top of the chopping block and paper towels.  Lay the flowers and herbs on the fabric in the desired design and then carefully place another piece of paper towel over it.   Take a hammer and pound out the design so that the plants; colors transfer to the fabric .  When this is competed , lift off the top layer of paper towel and the flowers and use a hot iron for about a minute to set the colorful design on to the fabric .
  3. Make a flower scrapbook – you don’t need a flower press to create your flower scrapbook.   Make a point of collecting flowers from your summer advetures. Then press them and place them in a album , adding pictures and details about where they were found to create a wonderful memory book .  To press flowers, follow these simple steps.

-          Pick the flowers you want to press along with a piece of cardboard, some newspaper and white tissue paper

-          Arrange the blooms on the cardboard and then layer on the tissue paper, the newspaper and another piece of cardboard.

-          Stack heavy objects like books and bricks on top of the flowers and cardboard and leave for 2-4 weeks before removing

After the 2-4 weeks have elapsed you should have pretty, dry flowers that will last as long as your memories.
