Here Comes the Fall: Inexpensive Ways to Decorate for the Year’s Most Colorful Season

9th Jun 2011

Images of splendor, splashes of vibrant colors on trees and brisk air that promises colder days in short order only to be warded off by the comfort of a long-sleeved jacket: This is Fall imagery at its finest. You can also get creative in the decorating of your home during a time of year like this. Fall doesn’t even require you to break the bank in order to decorate for it. You can find below some cost-effective decoration ideas, and before you know it, you’ll prefer spending your time indoors admiring the work that looks so similar to what’s outside.

First, inexpensive doesn’t necessarily have to mean plastic. Why buy something fake when you can purchase the real deal for next to nothing itself? Miniature pumpkins and gourds can be purchased generally for under $5 no matter where you live. You can usually even find them in a set so you don’t have to buy individually. These wonderfully colorful items make great centerpieces on tables, countertops and shelves, not to mention window ledges. They provide a rustic, yet homey feel that’s perfect for Fall.

Multi-colored leaves are similarly effective. These go beyond cheap and into the wonderful realm of free. Head on out to your backyard and pick up your favorites. Once they’ve fallen off their tree source, leaves tend to dry quickly and sometimes even curl. Rub some moisturizer on the front and back of each leaf and place it somewhere to dry in order to avoid this. You can also be assured that, for the entirety of the season, the leaves will keep their color. Any place that has a ledge is appropriate to scatter these, or add even more color to the pumpkin and gourd centerpiece you’ve already made. Another appropriate option is a fireplace mantle. Another effective and authentic look can come from tree branches.

For the Halloween lovers out there who want a little more ambiance as October 31 approaches, consider purchasing a few more of those cute and tiny little pumpkins. With a small knife, carve out a hole at the top and place some inexpensive black candles in. Voila! You have yourself a hand-made candle-holder that’s sure to set the mood once they’ve been lit and the lights are turned off.

These are just a few of many inexpensive or, in some cases, free ways to liven up your home to celebrate the Fall season and its holidays. By using the natural beauty of the season’s own colorful creations to decorate your home, you’ll be sure to make a setting that is effectively ambient, and without even breaking the bank.
