SeaOne of the most difficult aspects of crocheting is to find patterns that you like and want to begin, but an even more troublesome issue is finding patterns that fit when the project is completed. When making any type of item that is worn in most instances one size does not fit all, and crochet slippers are especially problematic simply because of the wide range in size when it comes to the human foot. While changing the size of crochet slippers may not be too difficult for those with vast crocheting experience, for those lacking in experience it can be a nightmare that causes crocheters to bypass patterns that are excellent in design simply out of fear of the unknown. Luckily there are a number of tricks available to both enlarge and reduce the size of crochet slippers that are little more than common sense remedies.

Since most crochet patterns for making slippers begin with the creation of the sole of the slipper, the logical place to begin in changing the size is in the sole. To make the size of the crochet slipper smaller just reduce the number of stitches in the pattern by 10 or 20 percent, thereby reducing the size of the slipper by 10 to 20 percent. This method can be used to enlarge the slipper as well by adding stitches in easy to work with percentages.

Another good method to change the size of crochet slippers is to change the size of the hook that was used in the original pattern. A smaller hook will make smaller stitches and a smaller slipper, and a larger hook will make larger stitches and a larger slipper when completed. Your choice of yarn plays an important role in the size of a crocheted slipper as well -  a yarn that is heavier in weight will make a larger slipper and a lighter yarn results in a smaller slipper.

When all else fails to change the size of a crocheted slipper to your satisfaction there are two last-ditch efforts to employ that can save the day. When the slippers are completed and they are still too large, try washing the slippers in warm or hot water and then placing it in the clothes dryer on high heat to shrink them. While this may work well you have to remember to keep a close watch on them to make sure that they do not shrink too much. To change the size of crochet slippers that are still too small, try using a pair of shoe stretchers to spread the yarn out a bit to make them larger.rch the web:
