Photo by louisa_catloverAre you sick of your  pillow   looking dull and boring   Want an affordable way to change the look of not only your pillow but your home itself?    Well, your in luck!   If doing some browsing you will come across many  body pillow covers ranging in design, illusion and styling, and while many will find whats on offer suitable,  many choose to go for something more unique. 

 If you have the time and necessary patience you can create your own unique body pillow cover in a matter of minutes so long as you have the required tools and knowledge.  .  Making your own pillow cover is relatively easy and allows you a degree of customization that retail covers don’t offer, unless you want to spend a large amount of money.    Take note of my guide below to find out how to make your own body pillow cover easily and quickly 

Items you will need  :

Before  beginning  , I suggest you get the necessary tools and thread to make your life that little bit easier.  These include:

• Body pillow – Have your body pillow at hand to take measurements
• Sewing machine – Although not essential a sewing machine allows you to finish the whole process faster and easier.
• Choose your fabric – Choosing the right fabric is important.  If you mean on implementing your own patterns and prints then cotton polyester fabrics are best.  For comfort you could always go for a silk or satin variation.
• Thread and needle – I suggest using strong transparent wire thread, the same kind thats similar to fishing wire, although designed for stitching clothing.  Any thread will do if you don’t have this type at hand.

Lets get busy shall we!

 The first thing you should do is take the measurements of your body pillow to insure your new pillow cover will fit properly.  Once you have your measurements you can proceed to cut your fabric to size.  I recomminend folding fabric in half and leaving just over an inch on all corners when cutting, this way you get both sides done in one go.  Remember you are not cutting to separate pieces, you want there to be one piece that covers both sides of the body pillow.

With sewing machine ready and the desired coloured thread proceed to stitch along the folds of your fabric across the two longest sides.  Once complete i suggest cutting away any excess fabric along the edges to neaten the cover a bit.

You should now be left with a pillow cover with an open end.  Turn the cover inside out and place your body pillow inside to make sure the case is the right size.  Once complete commence to the concluding step. All thats left now is for you to sew on your buttons or zipper so you can seal the pillow inside.  Personally i prefer buttons, particularly the pop kind which have no problems unfastening with ease and are secure.
