knitting
Woven stitch patterns make for wonderful scarf knitting patterns. They are so simple and a cinch to do. It has a very interesting repeating pattern of squares of purls and knits, giving your end product a woven look that can suit a man or woman. If you want to give it as a gift during holiday season, all you need to do is choose a color that best represents the holiday theme.
You’ll need:
1. Approximately 150 yards of superwash wool or bulky weight acrylic
2. One pair of size 11 US needles
3. Yarn needle or crochet hook
4. Scissors
Gauge: the gauge is not really critical, but I used 4 rows for every stitch for approximately 3 stitches.
Size: The finished piece is approximately 60 inches long and 5 and a half inches wide.
Let’s start!
1. Begin by casting on 16 stitches.
2. Rows 1 – 4: knit 4, purl 4, knit 4, purl 4
3. Rows 5 – 8: purl 4, knit 4, purl 4, knit 4
4. Repeat the pattern for the 8 rows until such time the scarf measures approximately 60 inches.
5. Bind off and don’t forget to cut off excess yarn.
6. Weave in ends.
This wonderful piece will look great if you use a yarn with a mohair look to it that is both dryable and machine washable. The material is inexpensive, warm, light, and best of all; it’s easy to work with. Just think about it – you can have a nice looking piece without the extra expense of wool.
